Depth Psychology in the Real World

I am a licensed therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience.

Depth Psychology acknowledges the power of early experience to shape current problems, the existence of the unconscious mind, and rich traditions such as the arts, humanities and what we call the mytho-poetic tradition that hold as many keys to healing and enlightenment as do the sciences.

Together, we can cut to the heart of the matter.

In my tradition, the meaning of the word Psyche is from the traditional Greek, meaning Soul. Psychotherapy involves the mind, but tends the soul. The etymology of the word Psychedelic is “to make the soul clear,” or “reveal soul to the self.” When we tend to the root of our issues and heal the rage and grief of the inner child, we make soul-level change that is in right relationship to our world and our own integrity.

Change is uncomfortable in the best times.

However, we are living through extremely challenging times: climate crises, state-sanctioned violence, and dangerously delusional supremacy ideations that we face today as a society.

As a left-leaning, intersectional feminist psychotherapist, I’m driven by a commitment to the process of collective liberation.

My intersections are: I am white-bodied, I come from a blended family, I am a childhood trauma survivor, I hold the identities of queer, disabled, neurodivergent, highly sensitive, gifted, creative, and high—performing. It is my duty as a mental health professional to constantly question systems, dismantle harm, and leverage my privilege to help those left most vulnerable by current systems of oppression.

I provide values-aligned containers to support individuals, couples, families, and community groups.

While change is uncomfortable, together we can be more comfortable with discomfort.

Therapy is a collaboration:

together: you, me, and the medicine engage in the world-making process that creates deeper meaning. From this comes understanding, so that you can work things out and make aligned change.

All medications are medicine, but not all medicine looks like medication.

Breath can be medicine. Music is medicine. Food is medicine. So is soul work.

As you continue your journey towards integration and wholeness, both the medicines and the wounds reveal themselves. One of my teachers cited her teachers, Indigenous healers who help those of us on Turtle Island remember, that often:

The medicine is in the wound.

Therefore, although we are all connected, we each have our own individual path to Self.

My background is in the theater/performing arts, storytelling,, community organizing, ritual, earth-honoring traditions, gender studies, tarot, journalism, reporting, and creative writing….

As well as peer counseling, I have professional experience in clinical hypnosis, Depth Psychology, social work, psychiatric inpatient hospitals, and wraparound case management. I have spent the last eighteen years in a private practice setting. I grew up here in the South Bay, but have also lived in Southern California, Oregon, and Massachusetts.

I’m a freelance writer. You can find my work here.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism/Communication Studies with a minor in Women’s Studies, all earned at the University of Oregon. My Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology was earned at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria, California.

As a woman with lived experience of trauma, I have let my tears nourish the soil in which I grow, where they turnec to food and diamonds. I want the same for you. I am a human being, imperfect and flawed, but I hold sacred the role of sitting with you while you feel.
